Functional cognition relates to thinking skills required to successfully engage in everyday activities, such as dressing, bathing, grooming, and work-related tasks.1
  • Cognition embodies a set of mental skills, essential to performing everyday tasks such as dressing, bathing, and work-related activities.1 These tasks involve such basic elements as orientation, attention, and concentration, as well as higher-level skills such as problem solving, decision making, and complex executive functioning.

  • In addition to the acquisition of the individual cognitive skills, the use of such skills within a functional context is extremely relevant. Functional cognition relates to thinking skills required to successfully engage in everyday activities, such as dressing, bathing, grooming, and work-related tasks.1

  • Specifically related to the REAL® System, the visual skills addressed include visuospatial awareness, decision making, attention, processing and sequencing, and memory.
