Mindful Market™ – Cognitive Skills
Welcome to Mindful Market, where patients can engage in a lively marketplace that emphasizes high-level cognitive skills, stimuli tolerance, and performance of instrumental activities of daily living (ADLs). Recover executive functions, working memory, sequencing and sorting abilities, and resilience to stimulation by volunteering at multiple small businesses in a charming market square.
Rebuild confidence in cognitive skills within this virtual space with differing stimulation levels and challenge settings that can help support community re-entry. These therapeutic and wellness activities can be utilized to help patients ease back into the workplace. All activities take place in environments with adjustable settings tailored to patient needs. When a session is complete, effort levels will be saved to help track progression and improvement throughout therapy.
Help out these small businesses by taking the reins in unique and engaging locations:
- Build sandwiches at the town food cart in Sandwich Shop activity. Orders range in size and complexity to help the patient build confidence in sequencing skills and working memory.
- In Harvest Helper, help the local farmer sort her delivery of animal feed while the animals clamor for their food. Catch each item as the farmer throws it to the patient and increase resilience and ability to concentrate around audio stimulation as they sort each item in its place.
- Engage your patient’s working memory and mental math abilities to sell postage stamps at the town’s Stamp Stand. Build confidence with money management and help customers stay within their budget by picking the right combo of colorful stamps with increasingly complex prices.
Lend a helping hand in Mindful Market, designed to help patients regain executive functions, working memory, and resilience within the context of ADLs to reinforce functionality. This experience offers a supportive and non-judgmental way to practice and recover executive functions outside of the traditional therapy environment.

Cognitive Rehabilitation Activities
Patients can take in the quaint courtyard in the center of the marketplace as the therapist selects the next activity.
Take on the role of a chef in Sandwich Shop, fulfilling sandwich orders for customers. Improve your patient’s memory and cognitive skills by making sandwiches for customers in a real kitchen environment, where they can utilize different countertops to the left, right, and in front of them to access sandwich ingredients.
Help a local farmer sort her delivery of animal feed while the animals clamor for their food. The farmer unloads her delivery of animal feed by tossing each item to the patient. The farmer picks up an item from the tractor trailer and tosses the item when the patient is ready to catch by placing their hands up to match the outline shown in the activity. The patient can increase their resilience and ability to concentrate around audio stimulation as they sort each item in its place. Sort each item using object recognition and place each item on the correct pallet. The farmer will provide reactions when they place the animal feed on the correct pallet. There are three pallets to choose from and each pallet will have an example of the item that the farmer throws.
Improve your patient’s memory and money management skills while selling postage stamps and helping customers stay within their designated budget. Use mental math and working memory to get as close to the customer’s budget as possible. Use the calculator for additional assistance.
