Activities / Hot Air Balloon

Hot Air Balloon

This activity is designed to assist with visuospatial awareness, dynamic balance and tolerance

Overview

  • Use for visuospatial awareness, dynamic balance, tolerance increase, obstacle navigation and core strengthening.

This activity uses immersive therapy to work on trunk mobility and dynamic weight shifting

Balloon Pilot

The patient utilizes trunk mobility and dynamic weight shifting to pilot a tethered balloon into nearby interactive objects.

This immersive activity works on core control and trunk mobility in a virtual setting

Bumper Band

Utilizing trunk mobility and core control, the patient steers an untethered balloon to bump other balloons to direct band members back to the stage.

Posture control and trunk mobility are the main focus of this three-dimensional therapy

Summit Rescue

Using postural control and trunk mobility, the patient steers a balloon to pick up hikers from a summit and bring them back to the safety of the chalet.

Focus

Trunk AROM, core control, and strengthening
The therapist helps the patient with trunk mobility, core control and strengthening

Physical

Balloon Pilot
  • Facilitate core strength; trunk control; dynamic balance; sitting tolerance, balance, and position in space

  • Trunk ROM, seated balance control, weight shifting, finding midline

  • Recommended for high acuity patient beginning therapy and needing to understand body positionality

  • Augment with functional tasks that require postural stability and balance: patient could be seated, supported or unsupported on a therapy mat, or practicing trunk circles

Bumper Band, Summit Rescue
  • Facilitate trunk AROM, stability, and control

  • Augment with functional tasks that require postural stability or use a mat for postural control

  • PT focus on basic trunk control

Cognitive

Bumper Band
  • Test trajectory and timing of trunk movement

  • OT focus on visual and spatial aspects of the game

Summit Rescue
  • Test navigating directionality

  • OT focus on visual and spatial aspects of the game

Adjustable Settings

Adjustable settings are designed to provide clinicians the freedom and flexibility to customize each session to meet an individual’s rehabilitation needs.
